New Direction Ministry - History
New Directions Ministry was
born in the heart of Pastor Roy
Smith in the 1980’s. He
began to do local jail ministry
in Andrews, Texas in 1986 where
he was pastoring. As his love
for those who seemed to have
begun at the starting gate of
life without a chance grew, he
continued his work with inmates
on a federal level after
returning to Midland in 1991.
The clear evidence that many men
had great intentions while in
prison to make a better life
once outside was compelling, but
so were the difficulties that
faced these men once they were
released.
The hard realities are the
difficulties associated with a
society that can’t deal with
an ex-inmate and an ex-inmate
that can’t deal with society
continue to render these
intentions unrealized. In early
2002, True-Lite Christian
Fellowship, the church pastored
by Rev. Smith, was able to
acquire land and buildings at
the corner of Washington and C
Street in Midland, Texas.
At this point, Pastor Smith
began to realize that the vision
the Lord had given him years
before and a vision that had
become not only the passion of
himself, but also the passion of
the True-Lite Christian
Fellowship Church congregation,
was about to come to pass and
they were going to be able to do
something about the burden
placed inside them by the Lord.
